Vignoble Gitton - Sancerre

history
Vignoble Gitton is a family-owned estate founded in 1945 by Marcel and Huguette Gitton with just half a hectare of vines. Over three generations, the domaine has grown to around 33 hectares across Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, and Coteaux du Giennois. Today, Pascal and Denise Gitton, together with their daughter Chanel, craft authentic, terroir-driven wines that highlight the diversity of Sancerre’s limestone and flint soils. Each parcel is vinified separately, reflecting the estate’s long-standing commitment to precision, tradition, and the pure expression of Sauvignon Blanc.
Vineyard
The vines of “Les Belles Dames” are rooted in pure silex (flint) soils, a formation that demands rigor from viticulture and yields low natural yields. This challenging terroir fosters grapes of great concentration, tension, and mineral expression.
Winemaking
After harvest, part of “Les Belles Dames” is vinified in French oak barrels—about 9 to 10 months of élevage—often with regular batonnage (lees stirring) to build texture and complexity. Some portions may see stainless steel or neutral vessels in blending. The barrels used are typically not new, preserving elegance and avoiding overt wood flavors.
Tasting notes
This cuvée offers rich aromas of tropical citrus, pear skin, kiwi, and crushed rock minerality, underlined by flinty edge and ripe fruit character. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet fresh, with firm acidity, saline tension, and beautifully integrated oak influence. The finish is persistent and mineral-driven.
Food pairing
“Les Belles Dames” pairs excellently with seafood, shellfish, grilled fish, and fresh goat cheese. Its fuller texture and depth also make it a fine match for richer preparations such as lobster or citrus-accented poultry dishes.
